Start with the role
An interview should explore what a person did, how they approached the work and which responsibilities were theirs. Specific situations make the discussion more useful than broad claims about leadership or performance.
Make the discussion useful
Connect the conversation to the organisation’s actual context. Ask which requirements are essential, which can be learned and which reflect preferences rather than responsibilities. When people disagree, record the difference and explore the reason instead of adding another vague requirement to the brief.
Keep a clear decision path
A consistent process gives both the client and the candidate a better understanding of the opportunity. Review the evidence against the agreed mandate, name the questions still open and communicate the next step clearly. A thoughtful search is a partnership from the first consultation through completion.
