Define the question
Useful research starts with a clear question: which backgrounds, experiences and geographic markets are relevant to this position? Agreeing these parameters early keeps the work focused and gives the hiring team a shared basis for discussion.
Look beyond titles
A title alone says little about the scope of a role. We consider the organisation, responsibilities and operating context behind a candidate’s experience. This helps distinguish a surface match from a background that deserves a closer conversation.
Review the evidence
Research supports a decision; it does not replace one. Discuss the findings against the mandate, review assumptions that no longer hold and clarify where further conversations would be useful. Quality matters more than the length of a list.
