Before the meeting
Interviewers should know which parts of the mandate they are exploring. Agree the purpose of each conversation and avoid asking every participant to repeat the same general questions.
During the discussion
Explore decisions and responsibilities through specific situations. Ask follow-up questions about the candidate’s own contribution, the constraints they faced and the lessons they took forward.
After the conversation
Discuss evidence while it is fresh. Connect observations to the position rather than ranking people on broad impressions. Make unanswered questions explicit so the next conversation has a clear purpose.
